In the 21st century, one of the key discussions held by practically every citizen is that of risks presented to the environment and how to counter those risks. To ensure the essence of the safety of the environment within establishments, the British Safety Council presents an annual Globe of Honor award to organizations that have proved to be working tremendously to ensure environmental protections whilst continuing to move forward. On the 25th of November of 2016, at an awards luncheon held at Draper’s Hall in the city of London, this prestigious award was presented to OSI Food Solutions along with seventeen other establishments. Speaking at the event, Lynda Armstrong OBE, chair of the British Safety Council remarked that the Globe of Honor represents one of the, if not the, most prestigious award for the management of environmental risks.
OSI Food Solutions has been in operation since 1989 and produces beef and pork for the restaurant industry. Previously in the years 2013 and 2015, OSI Food Solutions had the privilege of receiving the Globe of Honor, making this their third. OSI Food Solutions believe in putting forward an integrative approach to ensuring environmental safety as well as health and sustainability. The likelihood of today’s problems would more or less be eradicated if all establishments were to provide quality side-by-side with sustainability.
Presenting the award to OSI Food, Mike Robinson who is the current CEO of the British Safety Council, rightfully remarked as to how leadership is a key factor in achieving excellence. Implying that it would only be through the work of establishments and their approach to an issue that other establishments would follow pursuit. OSI food solutions had to achieve a maximum of five stars in the British Safety Council’s environmental management audit scheme from August 2015 – July 2016. After which, they were to demonstrate their environmental management skills to a panel of experts. The whole idea surrounding an award as prestigious as the Globe of Honor is to enlighten consumers over how their preferred organization is contributing towards grave issues presented in the modern world which adversely ensures organizations to address those issues.
