Rick Smith, CEO for Securus Technologies, acknowledges that his company has an advantage over the competition. “We have invested over $700 million back in our business including the acquisition of companies, technologies, and product development…and [Global Tel Link] has invested a small fraction of what we have.” Nonetheless, GTL has made claims recently that it can rival the service provided by Securus.
Securus Technologies is up to the challenge. Their recent investments place Securus well ahead of GTL’s older technologies that Securus has since discarded. In comparison, Securus’ suite of technological services is more comprehensive and backed by an internal customer service center rated 600 percent better than GTL’s. Securus’ trained technicians are also dedicated employees and experts in Securus’ VIOP Corrections calling platform – the largest of its type in the world.
It seems Securus has reason to feel confident in the challenge it recently issued to GTL, after hearing its competitor’s claims. “I want an independent judge to evaluate both product sets, both calling platforms, and both customer service models…” says Smith. He’s effectively challenged GTL to a technology “bake-off” with an independent referee to assess which company provides the largest and most comprehensive suite of technology products, the most sophisticated and advanced corrections calling platform and the best demonstrable customer service performance.
The challenge is a tall order indeed, though so far, Smith notes, GTL has declined to accept.
